Training
HOPE is assisting Arabella South Africa Holding in training of all employees in prevention as well as establishing a peer2peer counselling group in all three entities: ArabellaSheraton Grand Hotel, Western Cape and Spa and Blauuwklippen Wine Estate. Arabella also establishes a AIDS policy for all its employees and leads so in the Western Cape through example.
Round Table Germany
Representatives from the Round Table organisation in Germany visited the HOPE Project. Members from Round Table Norway and France joined the delegation. HOPE is the annual service project 2004/2005 for the Round Table in Germany
Meeting
The chairperson of HOPE met with Prof. Dr. Rita Suessmuth, former president of the German Parliament to discuss HOPE and matters of HIV/AIDS in South Africa. Prof. Suessmuth is the chairperson of the board of trustees of the German Aids Foundation.
Resignation
The coordinator of the project, Mrs. Elenor Speelman resigned at the end of her three years contract with effect from the 4th of February 2005. She played a vital role in the set up of the project in the hospital environment. The management and staff of the project thank her for all her dedication and wish her well for all her plans for the future. Mrs. Pauline Jooste takes over responsibility for the HOPE community health worker and Mrs. Chantal Africa will continue to do the administrative work for HOPE.
New posts
The health department of the Cape Town municipality gave the "go ahead" to employ another 7 HOPE community health worker in various township communities.
Year's End Function
The HOPE association celebrated their year's end party at the Tygerberg student centre and thanked all volunteers and employees for the hard work and all achievements. We were proud to welcome the HOPE community health worker, the people working at Tygerberg hospital, the management and the German Consulate General, Mr. Axel Schwirtz.
Traditonal Healer Pilot Project
HOPE together with the Prov. Administration and Tygerberg Academic Health Complex is working on a pilot project involving traditional healers, day clinics and HOPE community health workers.
Bloekombos
The next HOPE community health worker will be established in Bloekombos, proudly supported by Cubig - Messeagentur oHG in Munich, Germany.
Round Table Germany
The Round Table Association Germany has chosen HOPE to be their annual project for the year 2004/2005. Dr. Susanne Reuther attended the AGM in June in Germany and explained the work of the HOPE Association. We are very grateful for this decision!

3rd workshop with traditional healers
On the 21st of May a third workshop has been conducted at Disa Hall, where traditonal healers will highlight their concept of illness and treatment for a western medical practioners audience. The workshop is once again sponsored by MTU South Africa Pty Ltd.
Honorary members
Mrs. Kathrin Hoyos, Ambassador Anna-Margaretha Peters and Prof. Sobantu P. Kubukeli have been awarded the honorary membership during the Ball of HOPE. Congratulations!
TV documentary in German language
BR3 broadcasted a 45 minute documentary on the work of HOPE for the German TV.
Ball of HOPE
290 guests experienced a great evening with dance, food and the phantom of the opera and other musical items. Ambassador Anna-Margaretha Peters and Minister Marius Fransman delivered speeches as well as His Grace, Archbishop Lawrence P. Henry in the name of the patrons.
Second workshop with traditional healers
A second workshop with traditional healers and sangomas end of March 2004 saw 78 participants studying and discussing the impact of HIV and AIDS as well as gaining knowledge about the disease. This workshop was proudly sponsored by MTU South Africa PTY LTD. A follow up workshop will be held end of May 2004.
Agenda 21 Conference of Lutheran Churches
The chairperson was invited to present the ongoing relationsship with Arabella South Africa Holding during a three days conference in Johannesburg, organised by several Lutheran churches from Germany and South Africa.
Health Portfolio Committee of the German "Bundestag"
A delegation of the Health Portfolio Committee of the German "Bundestag" visited South Africa and spend a day at the HOPE project. A visit to Mfuleni to see the HCHW and other people involved in the fields of HIV/AIDS, a visit at the Ithemba ward of Tygerberg Children's Hospital and a luncheon with Minister of Health (WP) Piet Meyer, the German Ambassador Anna-Magaretha Peters as well as members of the South African parliament and other major roleplayers helped the delegates to understand the problems of the HIV/AIDS epidemic in South Africa.
MTU South Africa
MTU South Africa dedicated R 50.000 for workshops and educational work in the fields of HIV/AIDS and the traditional healers.
Traditional Healers Memorandum
The Forum of traditional practitioners together with HOPE and Tygerberg Academic Hospital agreed on a memorandum as the base of further co-operation.
Farewell Kathrin Hoyos
Mrs. Kathrin Hoyos served on the management board of HOPE the last three years. For personal reasons she decided to leave the management committee in February 2004. We thank her very much for all her efforts and energy, she put into HOPE and we wish her well in all everything she is doing in the future.
