As the year ends, HOPE Cape Town wishes to thank all its supporters and donors for 2007. Your ongoing support is the source of all, we can do to turn around the lives of people infected and affected of HIV and AIDS. We wish you all a merry Christmas and a happy New Year 2008. (12/07)

New employees
The year ends with recruting two new employees to complement the HOPE Cape Town team for 2008. With Yasmin Buettgen, we will have a dedicated project coordinator and Patty Peier will run the HOPE Cape Town office. This gives Lise Chartrand the opportunity to focus more on the South African Trust and its development. With Petra Reichwein, a part time fundraiser will also try to improve the fundraising efforts of the Hope Cape Town Trust. (12/07)

AGM
The annual AGM of HOPE Cape Town Association was held in December. The meeting received the report of the chairperson as well as the finance report, audited by an independent audit firm. The participants of the AGM were satisfied with the work done and encouraged management and employees to keep up the good work in 2008. (12/07)

Thank you letter
The chancellor of Germany, Dr. Angelan Merkel, send a letter of thanks to Rev. Fr. Stefan Hippler, encouriging him to keep up the excellent work done by HOPE Cape Town. (12/07)

Gott, Aids Afrika
Despite the excellent response in Germany, Rev. Fr. Stefan Hippler will refrain from further readings after a talk with the German Catholic Bishops Conference.
Meanwhile the State Secretary of the Vatican acknowledged receipt of the book and the letter to Pope Benedikt XVI. (12/07)

HOPE Kapstadt Stiftung
In Germany the HOPE Cape Town trust got a sister trust with the launch of the HOPE Kapstadt Stiftung. The German trust was launched in Bonn and will be organised by the German Aids Foundation. (11/07)

Gott, Aids, Afrika
The in German language written book of Stefan Hippler received an excellent response in Germany. He was invited to read in Germany amongst other places the representation of Rhineland Palatine in Berlin and the German Parliament. (11/07)

Visit of a Canadian Delegation
A political delegation from Canada visited Cape Town and the HOPE Cape Town project. According to their judgement HOPE Cape Town is unique in the way, it works as a private public partnership (11/07)

Visit of the Chancellor Angela Merkel
Chancellor Angela Merkel from Germany visited the HOPE Cape Town Association in October 2007. During her visit she learned about the HIV/AIDS problem in South Africa and got in touch with infected patients. (10/07)

Delegation of the Senate of the Czech Republic
A delegation of the senate of the Czech Republic will use their visit to South Africa to get first hand experience in the fields of HIV and AIDS. Under the leadership of Deputy President of the Senate, Mr. Jiri Sneberger, the delegation, including members of the committee on Health and Social Policy, will be in South Africa for 5 days. Consul General Tomas Pericky and Charge d'Affairs of the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Pretoria, Mr. Misoslav Pisa will join the visit to HOPE Cape Town. (08/07)

Gott-AIDS-Afrika
"Gott-AIDS-Afrika" is a book published in the German language from Bartholomaeus Grill and Stefan Hippler, which discusses the response of the church to the AIDS pandemic. Info als PDF (06/07)

ACE Entertainment GmbH
We welcome ACE Entertainment GmbH from Frankfurt/Germany as a new sponsor for our HOPE Community Health Worker in Bloekombos. Welcome on board and thanks for your ongoing support! (06/07)

Welcome Val
We welcome Val Cupido as our new office administrator. We are very pleased to have such a dedicated and skilled person running our office. (06/07)

Strike Action
A country wide strike brought trouble into the already troubled hospitals. Patients were partly not able to receive treatments, operation theatres were closed, people died because the lack of medical services.
HOPE Cape Town provided food for the patients at the Ithemba Ward as even the provision of food was jeopardized at Tygerberg Hospital (06/07)

Catholic Care
Catholic Care Milnerton presented a cheque to HOPE Cape Town on the occassion of the Ball of HOPE valued R 80 000. (05/07)

Ball of HOPE
Traditionally in May the Germanspeaking Catholic Community in cooperation with the Southern African - German Chamber of Commerce organised the Ball of HOPE in lieu of the association and trust. (05/07)

BB BEE Status for HOPE Cape Town
HOPE Cape Town received a certificate after being evaluated by an independent firm, that it matches all requirements to be broad based black economic empowerded. (04/07)

NPO Status for HOPE Cape Town Trust
Since end of March, the HOPE Cape Town Trust is formally acknowleged as a Non -Profit Organisation (NPO) in South Africa. (03/07)

Visitors
March was very busy month for HOPE Cape Town. Various delegations visited the project, amongst them a economic and political delegation from Baden Wuerttemberg (Germany), a portfolio committee of the German Parliament and the CDU Guetersloh. (03/07)

Elective Student Programme
HOPE Cape Town in cooperation with the University of Stellenbosch, Health Sciences Faculty and Kid Cru offer a 4 weeks elective student programme for international medical students. This offer is part of the agreement between the University and HOPE Cape Town. (01/07)

Visit
Yvonne Catterfeld, singer and actor from Germany, visited the Ithemba Ward in January to learn about the HIV/AIDS situation in South Africa (01/07)
